Here’s a classic recipe for crispy, cheesy chicken cheese balls—perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or game-day treat.
Ingredients
For the filling:
2 cups cooked chicken (shredded or finely chopped)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
¼ cup cream cheese (softened)
2 tbsp finely chopped green onions or cilantro
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For coating:
½ cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs (beaten)
1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko works great for extra crunch)
For frying:
Oil for deep frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
Instructions
Make the mixture – In a bowl, combine shredded chicken, shredded cheese, cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until it forms a sticky, moldable dough.
Chill – Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes (this makes it easier to roll into balls).
Form balls – Scoop out small portions (about 1–1.5 inches) and roll them into tight balls between your palms.
Set up breading station – Place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third.
Coat – Roll each ball in flour (shake off excess), dip in egg, then roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated. For extra crunch, repeat the egg-and-breadcrumb step.
Chill again – Place coated balls on a tray and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes (helps them hold together during frying).
Fry – Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry balls in batches (don’t overcrowd) for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Serve – Enjoy hot with dipping sauces like ranch, marinara, honey mustard, or spicy mayo.
Baking alternative (healthier)
Brush balls with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
Air fryer method
Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.
